Samsung Galaxy Note Review | Specification

With the launch of Samsung Galaxy Note, a little had we expected for such a successful response for this smartphone, maybe because of the size of Galaxy Note which makes it quite difficult to fit in every pocket and to be carried around. But the fact that Note serves the purpose of both a tablet and a phone, and also of course its features and performance, has made it one of the most successful flagship from the house of Samsung. Some people see it as an enlarged smartphone, while others see it as a squeezed tablet. Well, why not, because there is no device in between the 7” inches tablet and 5.3” inches Galaxy Note. The unmatchable S Pen of the Galaxy Note, which adds to the improved smartphone experience, is also a reason for the extensive liking of the Galaxy Note. So, let us check out the full review of galaxy note, but first let us have a sneak peak at the features of the phone.

Design:

Samsung chose to keep the looks of Galaxy Note quite simple. A good decision by Samsung as going with much designer looks and ending up with not that much of success would have effected the sales of the phone to large extent as the phone’s size is already a factor for many to not buy it as it is not that much of pocket friendly.

The dimensions of 146.9 x 83 x 9.7 mm make the phone no ordinary one, the wider display, but still a thin waistline and the weight of about 178 g makes it look little fragile not giving it a tough look, but yes it surely does give it a classy look and by the way, with the huge amount paid who would ever like to drop it and check its fragility.

Body:

The front of the phone has a 5.3 inch screen below which a hardware home key is present, the only thing that is properly visible while the screen is off. The press and hold on the hardware home key turns on the task manager of the phone, while a double tab turn on the voice commands menu. On top of the phone an earpiece, proximity sensor and a front facing camera are located. The front facing camera can be used for video calling on 3G.

The 4 sides of the body are covered with a metal frame. The left side of the phone has a volume rocker which is difficult to handle when using one hand to operate the phone, considering the size of the phone, but using the phone in landscape mode makes the volume rocker easy to use as it lands under the left hand thumb. When working with images the volume rocker can be used as keys to zoom in and out.

The right side of the phone has the traditional lock key. The 3.5 mm audio jack is present on the top along with the secondary microphone which is used for stereo voice recording. A the bottom of the phone the dual purpose USB port for charging and connecting is located along with the primary microphone of the phone.

The back panel of the phone is textured and the texture has little to do with a better grip for the phone. The 8 mp camera along with the LED flash is located on the back and the loudspeaker can also be located at the bottom. The compartment for the famous S pen is also at the bottom. The S Pen is quite hard to pull out and that is quite a good quality as no user will want to loose it any case and will not bother using some extra strength pulling it out.

Removing the back cover reveals the 2500 mah battery alongside which the hot swappable SIM and MicroSD card slots are present.

Performance:

The phone comes with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system and TouchWiz 4.0 and is upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The ICS update is already out in some countries. The performance of the Gingerbread is almost the same as on any other Samsung phone with Gingerbread, through the lock screen can be seen with some differences.
S PEN- The one thing to look out in the phone is the S Pen. The key or button on the stylus is what that differs S Pen from normal stylus. When using the S Pen normally without pressing the button, it works a s any other stylus or functions as any normal finger would, but when used with the button pressed the functionality of the S Pen changes. For ex- tapping the screen with button pressed takes a screenshot and opens the editor, double tapping with button pressed opens the S Memo for taking notes or drawing. A left slide with the S Pen while the button is pressed acts as back key and same function while sliding upwards opens the context menu.

Battery:

The 2500 mah battery gives a lot of power to the Galaxy note. The battery of the phone is supportive and does not discharge too frequently. This saves problem for the users too charge frequently to have the best from their phone. With moderate usage the battery of the phone easily works for 1.5+ days easily.
