Google Dismisses The Botnet Attack On Android Smartphones

We had informed earlier that according to Microsoft Engineer Terry Zink, Android phones all around the globe are being attacked by Botnet that uses the yahoo mail account of the user to send spam mails to all the contacts and further spread through advertisements sent in the mail. But the latest news that rolls out is that the Internet giant Google has denied the news of Botnet attack on Android smartphones.

Botnets are malicious softwares that generally infect the PCs as spam generators but Terry Zink claimed to have evidence for a similar program for Android. However, Microsoft claims that there is no evidence to support Zink’s claim. Google has claimed that the spam messages are PC generated but the spammers have designed them to look like been sent from Android devices.

Google Commented:

Our analysis suggests that spammers are using infected computers and a fake mobile signature to try to bypass anti-spam mechanisms in the email platform they’re using,”

Zink has written a follow up post about the Botnet claim on Android. Zink agreed that it is not a proven thing that Android phones have been compromised. He has also said that it is possible that spammers would have faked the spam mails to make them look like been originated from Android phones. But he also said that there was no doubt that there is increase in the number of malicious programs written for Android phones.
