We informed you earlier that Sony smartphones would get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update. Sony has finally confirmed that news and has provided a treat for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray users as Sony has released Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update for these three Android phones in INDIA, as per Times Of India.
For those users who still don’t know about the Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich OS, let us make them aware that Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest version of Android which has several improvement over Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Ice Cream Sandwichis better in terms of user experience. It provides users with improved multitasking, better hardware acceleration, and many others useful and advanced features.
The other Android users in India using handsets from the big names like Samsung, HTC, and others have to still wait for their handset companies to provide them with the ICS update. When Google announced the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS in November, Sony was the first to announce a clear plan over the update. While other companies have also made some similar announcements already, the customers of these companies have to still wait a while. Sadly Xperia S users also have to wait for a while, because Sony is yet to give an ICS update for it. Wells yes, its perfectly odd how older Xperia devices got the ICS update and Xperia S which was launched just few weeks ago, is yet to receive the update.
According to other companies such as Samsung and HTC, the updates given out by Google are delayed, as they have to customize them according to their own interface. The update may take time, but it will soon be available for the users. Samsung currently provides Ice Cream Sandwich only with Nexus which is directly managed by Google.
Companies also state that the upgrade cannot be provided for all their Android handsets, the update for Ice Cream Sandwich will only be provided for high-end devices with better hardware support. This because of the older hardware and sometimes the company prefer selling new devices with new OS as per their business policies.
Reports say that the two top smart phones from Samsung, namely Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy Note, have received the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in some of the countries, but are yet to be available in India. We hope that other Android users get the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon, and their long wait for the much talked OS is over.
