Nokia Announces Partnership With Rovio & Other Editors – More Applications For Windows Mobile

The best seller game Angry Birds from Rovio is one that almost every smart phone owner wants in his/her phone. And with no compatible version of the game Angry Birds Space in the windows phone the users were quite disappointed and lot of fuss was being created about the same. But now, Nokia has corrected this by announcing its partnership with the editor Rovio, which will soon be launching the Windows version of the application.

The Angry Birds world just enhanced with the launch of its new version Angry Bird Space and was launched for Android and iOS operating system, and recently blackberry too. Rovio not releasing a version of the game for Windows was a setback for windows phones, as the sales of the game came up to be excellent. Reports have it that this version of the Angry Bird game has already crossed the download mark of 50 million in under a month of its launch. For Nokia this was slap on the face as it is the biggest supporter around for the Windows Phone and aims to improve its sale of smart phones using the windows mobile operating system.

Nokia recently announced a direct partnership with Rovio at the CTIA show, which will now enable a Windows version of the Angry Birds space especially for the Lumia rabge of Nokia smart phones. Nokia managed to convince Rovio to set up a team for development of applications for Windows phone. Soon we will be able to see applications in market specially designed for Lumia or in general terms, for Windows mobile. Windows currently has only 70 k applications, this clearly means that they have a long path to travel to compete with Android or iOS.

Nokia has also announced several other announcements with various editors for the development of applications for the Windows mobile operating system. Nokia sure is trying hard to stay in the competition with windows mobile operating system. The other agreements announced by Nokia are in the field of sports (PGATour, ESPN), in entertainment (AOL) and with Groupon for six months. Applications for Time and Newsweek magazines are available for Windows. PayPal is also coming together with Nokia for finance related application for Windows phone. EA has also agreed to bring some good games and application for Nokia and Windows Mobile.

Nokia has stated that it wants the applications for Windows mobile to be exclusive and wants that the applications use its concept of tile, and editors provide applications directed to windows mobile and not just port their existing applications for other platforms. Marco Argenti, SVP, Nokia Developer Experience stated, “We are focused on delivering great, locally relevant apps, and importantly, those which offer unique, exclusive and original experiences.”
